NFL Network host Warren Sapp
Warren Sapp has been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery according to a news release by the Miami Beach police department. The department said the charges is a sresult from a domestic incident that occurred early Saturday morning at a South Florida Hotel but provided no details on the incident. The Miami Herald reports that Sapp was at the Miami-Dade County Jail Saturday evening and will see a judge on Saturday.
Sapp, 37, a former player with the Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Oakland Raiders, is in Miami covering the Super Bowl for the NFL network. In a release Saturday the network said that Sapp won’t appear on the air for the time being.
“We were made aware this afternoon of the arrest of Warren Sapp by the Miami Police Department (sic). In light of these circumstances, Warren Sapp will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter.”
Sapp was seen in handcuffs as he was escorted from the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami’s South Beach by police on Saturday afternoon.
Sapp was scheduled to headline a celebrity birthday party for D.J. Clue Saturday night.
The news comes a day after a woman filed a civil lawsuit against NFL Network personality and former Dallas Cowboys. The suit alleges Irvin raped a woman in 2007. Irvin will continue to appear on the network however.
