The Boston Red Sox have activated shortstop Jed Lowrie from the 60-day disabled list and then optioned him to Single-A Lowell so he could continue to play as he recovers from a sprained left wrist.

To make room for Lowrie on the roster, outfielder Jonathan Van Every was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
