In a tragic start to the 2010 World Cup, the great-granddaughter of former South African president Nelson Mandela was killed early Friday.

According to a report by the Associated Press, Zenani Mandela, 13, was killed in a one-car crash as she and another person travelled from the World Cup Kickoff concert in Johannesburg on Friday.

Zenani Mandela was the daughter of Zoleka Mandela and the granddaughter of Zindzi Mandela the former president's youngest daughter.

According to Sport24, the driver of the vehicle, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, was arrested after their car overturned near the Johannesburg city center.

The Associated Press reports that an investigation of probable homicide has begun by police, which is standard procedure when driver negligence is suspected.

Mandela, 91, was expected to attend Friday's World Cup opening ceromonies depending on his health.

No other details have been made available at this time, but we will update the story as we gather more information.
