ESPN announced Monday the New York Yankees will play the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park to open the 2010 Major League season on Sunday April 4th at 8 p.m ET. The game was previously scheduled for Monday April 5th but was moved to accommodate ESPN2’s broadcast. On Monday April 5, the 3-game series will take a two day break and resume on Wednesday April 7th.

Overall, this will be the 30th time that the Yankees and the Red Sox have opened a season against one another, dating back to the first in 1904. The Yankees hold an 18-10-1 record vs. the Red Sox in the 29 previous openers between the clubs. The last time a Yankees-Red Sox season opener was played at Fenway Park was in 1985.
