Jeff Brantley here of the Hall of Fame radio broadcast team of the Cincinnati Reds, the Cowboy part of the Marty Brenneman and Cowboy ’some kind of something radio team.

In last night’s game, I saw something you just don’t see anymore. Pickin’ n’ Grinnin’. Now me and Marty are both from the deep south- MartAY from Carolina and me from Alabama. That is some kind of special to be from that state.

Me and Marty go back a long way since my playing days as a star reliever with the Cincinnati Reds. However, even two of the most professional broadcasters will have moments where they don’t agree.

It was between the the 4th and 5th Inning, I believe they call that the Middle of the 4th and 5th. And I lean over to Marty and I say

“That Joey Votto is some kind of something special”

“What do you mean Cowboy?” Marty said, he was watching Days of Our Lives, the hit CBS Television game show.

I said “Marty, you don’t think Votto is just a peice of work, just chissled, it’s like God wanted him a first baseman and he made him one.”

His goodlooks make his teammates feel inferior

To which Marty said, “Nah, I never really noticed, Cowboy”

To which I said “You’re lyin’ like a no-legged dog, Marty, that Joey Votto is some kind of Man Candy”

I tell you the look on Marty’s face when I said that, I wish Thom could have been there to see the look on Daddy’s face, I tell you.

Now for the Baseball Analysis:

Let me tell you ‘nary have I ever seen a better looking first basemen.    It was the Bottom of the 4th two outs and a  high soft, low liner was hit sharpley to Joey Votto. And I am telling you, that kid grabbed that out of the air like a bull tosses his rider before he can even get 8 out of the gate.  That’s what we call Pickin’ and Grinnin’

Remember Red’s fans Joey Votto is a man’s man. Distinct features, Italian Canadian stock, wide broad shoulders, firm buttocks.

That’s all for now, be sure to catch all of your Reds Action on the Red’s Radio Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame Network
