Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano spoke publicly for the first time about his June 25 dugout tirade, which led to him being banished from the team.

In an interview with ESPN, Zambrano says he's glad the Cubs sent him to the Doctor to get help with anger management.

"A lot of people have told me I need to change if I want to be successful," Zambrano told ESPN. "Thank God the Cubs have sent me to the doctor for anger management. I've had three sessions already ... doing exercises. I have to write down every time I get mad."

I was trying to fire up the team. Lee told me to shut up, and I got more excited," Zambrano added. "I apologize from the bottom of my heart. The last person I would be mad at is D. Lee; he's a Gold Glover. I was just mad at myself."

Zambrano will rejoin the Cubs Friday when they take on the Colorado Rockies. He will be placed in the Cubs the bullpen.

He has made two appearances with the Cubs Triple-A team, the Iowa Cubs. Saturday he pitched two innings in relief allowing a single and striking out three.
