Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey says that an investigation by the NCAA and the University of Florida into allegations he took $100,000 from an agent is almost over.

Pouncey was the subject of an ESPN report that alleged he received $100,000 from an agent during the 2009 Florida football season. Pouncey has denied that he ever had took money.

ESPN and others reported that an anonymous letter postmarked from Canada was sent to the University of Florida making the allegation.

"It’s not true," Pouncey said Saturday after his first day of Steelers practice.  "I don’t know who would ever write a letter like that.  Trying to destroy somebody’s name is not fair but it is not true.  Everybody knows, they went through a whole investigation and they couldn’t find anything."

Pouncey says the investigation is almost over.

"It is almost over now, they could not find anything.  I talked to them yesterday. I am just happy that everyone sees that it is not true."

Florida coach Urban Meyer has said they stand behind Pouncey's statement that he did not take money from an agent.

"I went to Maurkice," Meyer said last week. "He said that didn't happen. I certainly didn't investigate. We have people that do that. I have not been this concerned. I don't like our pictures going across the ticker and everything else. If something happened, he should be punished severely. If it didn't happen, then that's nonsense. Everything I hear, I heard his denial today, and we stand by Maurkice Pouncey."

Pouncey the 18th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft signed a five-year contract late Friday night.
