The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have sent two-time All-Star outfielder Alex Rios to the Chicago White Sox via a waiver claim. The Blue Jays had the option to recall Rios from the waiver wire even if a club made a claim on him. Toronto will not receive a player in return. Chicago will pick up Rios’ salary which is about $60 million through 2014. This season Rios is hitting .264 with 14 homers and 62 RBI.
Rios, 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is a career .285 (875-3,071) hitter with 81 home runs, 395 RBI and 495 runs scored in six major-league seasons, all with the Blue Jays. He has added 195 doubles, 36 triples and 112 stolen bases in 145 attempts (77.2 percent)
