Adidas cuts ties with Arenas

The shoe and apparel company Adidas is cutting ties with suspended Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas the company announced Friday.  Arenas pled guilty to felony gun possession Friday, in Washington D.C. superior court on Friday. On Dec. 6 Arenas was suspended indefinitely by NBA commissioner David Stern.

“In response to Gilbert Arenas’ guilty plea to felony charges, Adidas has terminated its agreement with the athlete effective immediately. Beyond this statement we have no further comment at this time,” the company said in a statement. Arenas began endorsing Adidas in 2003.

On Dec. 21st following a confrontation with teammate Javaris Crittenton over a gambling debt, Arenas laid out three guns next to his teammates locker with a sign that said “Pick One”.

Arenas will lose $147,208 for every game he misses while under suspension.  Arenas still has four-years left on his contract with the Wizards and would be due to make $80 million.
