After beginning the season with a 2-3 record, the San Diego Chargers won their eighth straight game Sunday, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 20-17. Each year, around Week 4 or so, it’s rumored the Chargers will fire head coach Norv Turner, after which the Chargers go on a December winning streak. In fact, dating back to a 24-21 win at Buffalo on December 3, 2006, the Chargers have won an NFL-record 16 consecutive games in December.
Just one game away from clinching a playoff spot Turner will get contract extension, a team source told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Winning on the road in Dallas Sunday against the NFC east leader at the beginning of play Sunday, was pivotal for the Chargers. It’s also where Norv Turner won two Super Bowls as an offensive coordinator. After Sunday’s win quarterback Philip Rivers gave Turner the game ball.
“He doesn’t care one bit about getting recognition, but he certainly deserves a ton of credit for where we’re at,” Rivers said. “I know it was special for him to come to Dallas. He’s always the one giving out game balls so I thought I’d give him one this time for the great job he’s done.”
The Chargers moved to 10-3 on the year and can clinch the AFC West division title with a win next week against Cincinnati along with a Denver loss against Oakland.
