It’s only Week 15, but Brett Favre who is having an MVP type season, is using the “R word” again. You got it, retirement.
Favre told the USA TODAY, if the Vikings won the Super Bowl he would probably retire, but he says he’s not making any promises.
“Yeah,” Favre says, “I’d be pretty comfortable saying, ‘Hey, there ain’t nothin’ left.”
“However, “I’m not going to sit there and go, ‘Oh, my God’ if the Vikings don’t win the Super Bowl.. “I’d love to get there, but it’s not make-or-break for me.”
The Vikings currently are 11-2 and with a win Sunday night against Carolina can clinch the NFC North. And Favre has started 282 consecutive games (304 including playoffs), the longest stretch ever by an NFL player.
Favre says he takes 800 milligrams of Ibuprofen three times a day, but that he has overcome his addiction to pain pills.
“I really had a bad problem with pain pills,” Favre said. “I haven’t drank in 12 years — not a drop.”
Through the first 13 games of 2009, Favre, who celebrated his 40th birthday on October 10, has completed 295 of 433 passes (68.1%) for 3,341 yards and 27 TDs. He is off to the best start of his storied career in terms of interceptions, as he has only 6, and in passer
rating, as he has the 2nd-highest rating of 106.0. His current 68.1 completion percentage is near the Vikings single-season record of
(Daunte Culpepper-69.2%-2004). and his +21 TD/INT ratio ranks 1st.

Brett I have been a huge Packer fan forever, but since you got released I haven’t cheered for them once.
Since you came to Greenbay you gave me the thrill of watching a competitive football team. That is something I have never seen from the Packers.
I have been in your corner ever since.
I hope to see you play next year. You and the Vikes have a outstanding team and will be back next year for another run at it.
The best team lost yesterday.
Hope to see you next year.
When you do retire I hope you don’t retire as a Packer, because those fans don’t deserve that honor!
And to you Packer fans you are about to have another team to root for like the years that I seen growing up.
As long as Tompson is around that will happen! Mark my words!
Brett, You played your heart out yesterday, my 9 year old son Noah and I, have rooted for you all season,he, and I have GREAAT repect for you and for the courage and toughness you showed yesterday, and we will probabley NEVER forget itChuck Rapp
Brett, growing up in Minnesota, I was understandbaly not a big fan of yours for most of your career, admirable as it is. However, I have become one of your biggest admirers/proponents and can only say that the Minnesota Vikings and their fans have been truly fortunate to have benefited from your magic and talent over this past season. My husband (a diehard Steelers fan) and I truly hope to see you and your family back for the 2010 Minnesota football season. We have faith in you taking us all the way.
I hope Brett comes back next year!! What a thrill to watch! I think he should be able to just go in for the meetings next summer but not have to go through the physical side of training camp. Just show up on game day, throw a few warm-up passes and then run on the field and lead the Vikes to another thrilling season!! Come back next year! Im sure everyone of your teammates wants you back! and so does NFL Nation!!
Hey Brett,
I’ve forgiven you for being a Packer. I hope you know how proud I was to have you on the Vikings team last night. Win lose or draw you and the team played your hearts out. I hope you will come back for another year with us. This has been the most memorable Vikings season I’ve ever experienced. Despite the end of game mishaps, you have to know that we (the Vikings) wouldn’t have even been in the Championship game without you. The last thing I wanted to say is that your website needs some updating. Nothing but love from the Vikings here. Thanks for the great season and hope to see you in Purple next year!

Brett,
You were amazing this year!! Watching you side by side with AP has been the most exciting and entertaining thing I have ever experienced in watching the NFL. Last night, you showed the whole nation what true strength, courage, and determination to keep fighting is all about. I truely feel in my heart that you are an American Hero just for your will to keep trying, working hard, and determination to win. You represent what America stand for completely. Whatever you decide to do will be respected to the highest cause you have nothing else to prove to anyone. Personally, I hope you do come back to finish your contract. I think you have to best chance to win the whole thing with the vikings. They stand behind you and believe in you. They feed off your will power to never give up. If you do leave…thanks for the memories. Not just the great plays and the moments, but the example you displayed on the field to everyone who struggles to keep fighting and never giving up and continues to work hard. Those traits is what I honor the most about you. Good luck Brett!! Hope to see you next season.
Brett, This season has been one of the most exciting that i have experianced as a football fan. I live in Milwaukee and was or at least thought I was a die hard packer fan. I began watching football when your career began and have loved every minute of all the ups and downs. I have been in your corner since you left the packers and really can’t see myself being a packer fan again. A few years back we took a road trip to Dauphin Island Alabama and made a stop in Kiln Mississippi. My wife is the one who signed on the no one under 21 sign at the broke spoke. Last year my wife surprised me with a trip down to Nashville. We saw all of Nashville and went to the grand ol opry. She said we were going to try to get tickits for the Jets Titians game. Which I figured had no chance of happening seeing how they were undeated, the game was sold out, and we didn’t have much cash. But she had already bought tickets in August. It turned out to be the best vacation ever. It wasn’t very long ago that I could have never seen myself cheering for the Vikings, but It was extreamly easy for me to go purple. I even have two cats whose names are Brett and Deanna. Brett, I love the game of football, but I don’t know football without you. I really hope that there is one year left. I can pretty much remember every play since it began. Thank you so much for the memories. One more thing I know you enjoy country music. Well my father in law is a country artist. You can check him out at http://www.myspace.com/jamesharleymusic It would be so cool if you could leave a coment. Take care Brett
Hi Brett……I really enjoyed the game Sunday. I was screaming and hollering just like I use to when you were a Packer. Speaking of the Packers, I’m glad I got visit Lambeau Field in July 2008. After what you’ve been through with them, I wouldn’t be able to visit Greenbay now. I go back to 1961 with the Packers, but I don’t feel about them the way I use to. I thought I’d always be a Packer fan, but I’m not a fan anymore. You need to take the off season to do a little soul searching. Of course your fans would love to see you come back for the 2010 season, but you have to do what’s best for you and your family. It was hard watching your wife cover her face with her hands everytime you got slammed to the ground during the Saints game. You’ve been a joy to watch. Thanks for the boyish charm and the intense stare when you are looking down field.
great game and courage, but the refs screwed us they looked like pittsburgh refs.GOD I hope you come back 1 more year! thanks brett
Brett- I LOVE THE WAY YOU PLAY FOOTBALL! I love the fact that no matter what is going on in the game you have such a huge impact. I woud love to see you play againif you and your family are up for it! It is a long season and the Vikings were so good this year. Imagine 2 years working with the same core of guys. The Vikings should be unstoppable. Take your time on figuring out whether you will come back or not. Unlike any other year, I don’t think the Vikings organization or the fans will care if you take it all the way through training camp to decide. Good luck and I hope there is just one more year left. I hope you can leave with a Super Bowl ring!
Thanks for all the great games,
Kris Knights
Brett,
My mom died before she could see the miracle of you playing for us, she loved you and she loved her Vikings and pocorn on sunday, our family calls one another the minute a touchdown occurs and the wires were alive this year every sunday. We love you, what you bring to our team is beyond words you will bring life to Minnesota and your teamates if you come back. Thank you for a season that no one can take away from us, and ps despite the tough times in our last game I have never been so proud of our team.
If he does decide to retire from playing, I think he has earned enough experience and knowledge to coach. I for one(not only because I’m such a huge fan) would not blame him for that pass/interception with Saints. He played hard and best even with constant take down by Saints. Go Brett!
Dear Brett,
This has been the most exciting year for the Vikings that I ever recall and it was you completing our team that made it that way. Thanks for all your efforts and encouragement and the wisdom that you brought to the team. I very much hope that you return and make it an even better year next year! Many nights I prayed for you and the Vikings, especially before the Packers came here and when our team went there. My son-in-law (Packers fan) brought me to Lambeau Field to watch you there. In answer to the Packers jests: Brett Who? I made a large purple sign that read: The Hall of Fame Knows His Name….But, don’t be sore, cause we love our #4! After about ten minutes of being there I knew that my sign would never make it on TV! It was one of the most uncomfortable places that I have ever been, but it was ever sweet when we won!! Please know that so many were and are cheering for you. It’s been a great ride!! I am praying that God will guide you in your decision about coming back with us next year. Thanks for coming here and for all you did to help our team and actually our state as well at a time when people needed a lift. Take time to heal and may God bless you in times ahead.
Phyllis
Brett,
My opinion doesn’t matter much but I want to let you know I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin watching your glory days. You were great as a packer. This year with the Vikings you were legendary. I want to thank you for all you’ve given to the sport of football. You will always be remembered as the greatest ever to step on that field. Whether you retire or comeback no one should be able to doubt you anymore. Though the entire world knows you deserve one more ring. The guys on the squad love you. Hope you and your family the very best this year.
Love you Brett, broke my heart that we didn’t come up with the win, the better team lost that game and its a shame. you deserve the world with all your hardwork and desire. id love to see you come back one more year!!
We LOVE you Brett, we’ve followed you through all the teams, and it was like Christmas the day you came to Minnesota. Games were thrilling and you gave us hope and something to look forward to. We hope you continue to play another year, we’re selfish and enjoying it so. Take care, heal those bruises, and we send a note to the Offensive line to protect you a little better!!
1 more year – say it! (It’s easy).
If you do you, you will get to pound the lions two more times. (What could be more fun!)
My husband and I both want you to know how much we respect you and enjoy watching you play. We are Brett Favre fans above and beyond any team fans. You had such a great year and we would really enjoy watching you play another year. You are the most exciting and enjoyable QB to watch play there ever was and ever will be. What would football be without you and your excitement? I don’t want to have to find out. In my opinion, no other GB in history has so many fans that love him. You are truely one of the greats; your toughness (“the’ ironman of football), your enthusiasim, dedication and true love for the game. We can’t say enough good about you. I hope you heal your body and mind and decide to come back. May you and your family be blessed in the coming years. (By the way, have you heard of a tiny town in Mississippi of Shuqualak; it is located on Hwy. 45 and about 14 miles from Macon? My husband was born and raised in that little “dot on the map”, and although I am a “yankee”, we lived in Mississippi for 8 years before returning up north to Wisconsin).
Dear Mr. Favre: I am writing to thank you for a brilliant year this past season. When you made the decision to join the Vikings, you created a vision that has not been attainable over the years. We didn’t make it to the superbowl, but we did win. There was a game in the season that the score said the Vikings lost and people were critical. I personally thought the game had been won. It was won when Percy Harvin was hurt, you didn’t go to the sideline, you ran down to where he was and stayed to ensure he was fine. That showed character and that won the game. When you were the quarterback for Green Bay, I became absolutely a fan of yours when your wife began her journey with cancer. Again, character was shown. So, I would hope that you would decide to play another year and give the Vikings another magical season, but if you don’t. Thank you for creating the magic of the year. My grandson who is 7, was taken to a game by his Dad and became one of your strongest fans. For that, I say “Thank you” so very much.
brett you have to come back for a 20th season you can’t call it quits on 19 years you dont want jerry rice to hold that record do you lol. well anyway i hope to see you in purple in 2010.
Brett,
Do you remember that movie the Patriot? You are THAT warrior. You are our warrior, and you need to come back for all of us Minni fans who hated you for so many years( because of your talent) one more time. Even w/ your pick at the end of that game, I was ok with it because you made our season super, and I wear #4 proudly in Springfield ,MO. The team will rally around you. The chemestry will be better, because everyone will be even hungrier. One More Time, Brett…One more time..
- Jerry Atkinson
Brett,
First of all congrats on a phenomenal season, I’m so glad you had that season in Minnesota. You are the toughest and best quarterback I’ve ever seen. As a fan since the Vikings’ inception in 1960 I haven’t seen that much excitement in the Vikings’ player ranks, fans, and around the country, you lit the flame and it roared. I’ve never seen a quarterback have a second half like you did in Chicago and then the resiliency from abuse in NO and still putting the team in position to win. Hopefully you’ll feel good enough to blast it another year in Minnesota.
Brett,
I have been a Vikings fan for over 40 years so you can imagine how I have felt about the Packers over that time. However, when you were playing for the Packers you were one of my favorite players in the league (albeit playing for one of our most hated rivals) I have always enjoyed watching you play because of the energy and enthusiasm you have always shown. This year with the Vikings has been the most enjoyable season that I have experienced in a VERY long time. The Vikings were the best team in the NFL this year but unfortunately the final results won’t say that.
I am feeling very confident that you will decide to come back for another season with the Vikings and this time the results will be different. Heres why: The entire team will be hugely motivated by this past season, the offensive line will be much better, Adrian will solve his fumble issues and rebound for a GREAT season, Rice & Harvin will both be improved and Berrian will be healthy, EJ & Winfield return to strengthen the defense, and Brett Favre returns for what will be the ultimate Jab at the team that treated him with too much disrespect for a player that
defined the franchise for 17 years. I CAN’T WAIT!!
Brett, I have watched you play since your first game with the packers. I watched you grow and impove and turn into a man that I would have been more than proud to call my son. (In fact I do call you “my boy”. I have cried with you at your low spots and celebrated your high ones. I don’t think I know of any athlete that has given more to his sport that you. You played with honor and integrity every time you entered the field. Your team members were first on your agenda and you never let them down. You gave all you had and then some. When you were forced out of green bay, I was so ashamed of the way you were treated by the people you had given nothing but your best for 16 years. Ted Thompson is a control freak and never cared about what was best for the packers. He was cruel and showed no integrity in the way he pushed you out. I cheered for the Jets, and now I cheer for the Vikings. No one ever made me feel about the game of football the way you have and I will cheer for you until you are truly done playing. I hope you come back for another year, but I know as we get older each hit is alittle harder on our bodies. I love you Brett, and what ever you decide, I can say I am truly honored to have been able to watch you place and bless this game with you talent, leadership, and honor. God Bless You.
