Cowboys give young boy dream day

Many sports fans dream of meeting their favorite athlete. One young boy, who has a serious illness, lived that dream.

Six-year-old Ian Gregory traveled with his father, Shane, and his sister from Canyon, Texas near Amarillo, to meet the Dallas Cowboys at Valley Ranch, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ian has been diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma, a type of cancer, and his hospital enrolled him in the Make-A-Wish program. ESPN picked up the wish for its “My Wish” series airing July 5-9. (Note: Ian’s feature will run July 5 on all ESPN networks)

“His wish was to go to a game,” Shane Gregory said. “Maybe get to watch it on the field and meet a few players. The wish came early when ESPN picked it up from Make-A-Wish and called to ask if we could do it in two weeks.”

ESPN employees surprised Ian by taking him to play miniature golf and giving him a DVD to watch. The DVD featured Cowboys tight end Jason Witten asking Ian to come to practice.

Ian spent the day on the field watching practice, touring Jerry Jones’ office while getting to touch a Super Bowl trophy and eating lunch with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.
