Grandpa, 44-years-old and nine kids, lacing them up Sunday in Seattle. Not really Grandpa, but Jim Rome called him that today. He really does have nine kids.
He is the owner of that dad bod and almost got the Colts into the win column with an over-the-shoulder pass to Colts wideout Alec Pierce on third-and-eight that set up a would-be game-winning field goal with 47 seconds left. The Seahawks got good field position and a couple of good yardage gains and kicked their own game-winning field goal, and the rest was history.
His name is Philip Rivers and he’s a hero. He is that 40-something, still getting after it guy-living with no regrets.
Probably the happiest post-game losing quarterback you’ll ever see when he stepped up to the podium Sunday evening following the loss. A loss that puts the Colts well out of the playoffs for now. They will probably need to win their final three games to make the playoffs.
“There is doubt, and it’s real… the guaranteed safe bet is to go home or not go for it,” Rivers said post-game when asked what it meant to return to the NFL after five years away.
“The other option is, ‘Shoot, let’s see what happens.’ I think maybe that’s something young people or boys might take away from this — that coach wasn’t scared.”
