Report: Rays acquire Soriano

The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired relief pitcher Rafael Soriano from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-hander Jesse Chavez. The deal will be completed pending a physical according to SI.com.

Soriano accepted arbitration from the Braves on Monday night, and will receive a one-year non-guaranteed contract in 2009 worth around $7 million according to MLB.com.

Soriano pitched in 77 games for the Braves in 2009, compiling 27 saves out 31 save opportunities.

The Rays acquired Chavez from Pittsburgh in exchange for infielder Akinori Iwamura on Nov. 3. In 71 games with the Pirates Chavez had a 4.01 ERA working 67.1 relief innings.
