The New York Yankees and Johnny Damon’s agent Scott Boras are negotiating a new contract for the free-agent left fielder, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.
The news comes just a day after the Yankees acquired a left handed hitter from the Detroit Tigers in center fielder Curtis Granderson. A move which not only bolstered the Yankees speed at the top of the order, but also gave Yankees general manager Brian Cashman leverage over Boras in negotiating a new contract for the 36-year old Damon. Damon could still be the Yankees everyday left fielder and most believe he would prefer to take less than his market value to remain a Yankee.
